NOTES FOR THE MEETING ON 19th JANUARY 2002

We will be discussing in very general terms how computers work and what we can do with them.

I have been looking at various books for computer newcomers, such as the"Dummies" and "Idiots" guides.  There is a new book which has recently been published, and which I think will site us much better than any of these, and I intend to use it as an informal text book for the sessions.

In other words, there's no compulsion for anybody to buy it, but it will help if you do!

The book is:

Catching Up With Computers by Moira Stephen

Published by the Pearson Education division of Prentice-Hall

ISBN 0-130-90823-1

I paid €28,80 from Libreria Europa in Calpe, although it's available from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk) for £12-79 plus carriage, which probably works out a bit cheaper..

I have re-written the first part of my own small book on "Computing for the Bewildered".

I have made this available for Download, and also as hard copy. and will make this available, but I just don't think I'll be able to re-write the rest, for which I would need to start from scratch.

If you have any suggestions, please e-mail them to me at questions@billnot.com before the meeting if possible, so that I can think about them!

Hope to see you Saturday.
